Layout Architecture Guide
Parallel (Galley) Kitchen
Endorsed by professional chefs worldwide, the parallel galley kitchen features two parallel runs of cabinetry separated by a central corridor. This setup enables distinct separation between the "Wet Zone" (sink, dishwashing, prep) and the "Dry Zone" (hob, baking, tall pantry).
Optimal Corridor Dimensions
Corridor Clearances
- • Minimum Room Width: 7.5 feet (2,300mm) overall room width.
- • Central Aisle Clearance: 3.5ft to 4ft (1,050mm - 1,200mm) between opposite counters.
- • Counter Depths: 600mm on primary cooking run; optional 500mm on secondary prep run.
- • Full Door Swings: Ensures opposite drawers can open simultaneously without collision.
Wet & Dry Zone Segmentation
Functional Separation
Chennai families love parallel layouts because wet cleaning tasks are kept cleanly segregated from dry baking and serving:
- • Wall A (Cooking & Hot): Built-in 4-burner hob, chimney, and spice pull-outs.
- • Wall B (Wet & Cold): Double bowl sink, dishwasher, tall pantry, and refrigerator.
- • Zero Blind Corners: Eliminates complicated corner pull-outs entirely.
Advantages
- ✓Unrivaled ergonomic efficiency — pivot 180° to move from sink to hob.
- ✓Maximum lineal countertop surface for meal preparation.
- ✓Cleanest modular cabinetry with zero awkward corner angles.
Limitations
- ✕If the central aisle is under 3ft, it feels claustrophobic for two cooks.
- ✕Cannot integrate an in-kitchen dining table without a dedicated niche.
